Feasibility of an elevated cycle track using urb-x's system along the A7 motorway
Ahead of the planned A7 motorway rehabilitation south of Linz, Austria, ASFINAG evaluated options for a new cycling link running along the corridor. urb-x supported ASFINAG and the lead technical planner by developing and comparing 3D-modelled modular variants in a feasibility study.
The study applied an efficient urb-x hollow-box girder configuration designed for minimal impact on sensitive surroundings, including an adjacent protected nature reserve:
Structure: Straight hollow-box girders with alternating 15 m and 25 m spans
Deck: Steel deck with thin-layer reactive-resin surfacing
Drainage: Continuous 2.5% crossfall
Prefabrication enables fast installation with minimal site disruption. Additionally, the Gerber system allows column positions to shift longitudinally by up to 10% to navigate difficult ground, a crucial advantage when building alongside an active motorway and protected land.
