Feasibility study for a safe and continuous cycling and pedestrian route along busy Ständlerstrasse

The Ständlerstrasse in Munich carries over 10’300 vehicles per day across a 4km key street corridor in a key urban zone in Munich. The Mobilitätsreferat Landeshauptstadt Munich is prioritising a modal shift to active mobility and promotes a safe and continuous traffic flow for pedestrians and cyclists along the Ständlerstrasse.

An elevated cycling route along this stretch sounds counterintuitive at first. The feasibility study urb-x carried out with Drees & Sommer and CDM Smith for the Mobilitätsreferat confirmed it is feasible and provided the necessary data and a preferred route design.

In the light of the "Radoffensive Klimaland Bayern" the study successfully presented the most viable options for cycling and pedestrian traffic routes: free of crossroads leveraging up to 2'200m of elevated cycling infrastructure.
